Summer Reading Program 2007

The J-Room is not only picture books. We, too, have public computer access. This is a true asset for parents who wish to use a computer while keeping an eye on children. Available to the young folk are books, magazines, a craft table replenished weekly, puppets, blocks, puzzles, computer games, and video or DVD movies to borrow. We are beefing up our AR (accelerated reader), I Can Read, manga, and books-on-CD collections. The non-fiction section ranges from religion to science, animal husbandry to arts & crafts, sports to poetry, history to geography and back again. Are you a homeschooling family? This is the section for you.

During the summer months, Storytime takes a nap and the Summer Reading Program wakes up. This program operates on a grand scale! For 5-6 weeks we open our doors to all sorts of fascinating presenters and unusual workshops aimed at "studying" bugs, or snakes, or music, or whatever topic has been chosen. You'll be having so much fun you'll forget you're learning! We target two audiences: first, whole families are invited, with special emphasis on 6-12 year olds; then we have a second program for 3-5 year olds, with books and activities comfortable for them.

Never judge book by its movie;decide for yourself. Our J-chapter books include The Dark is Rising, The Golden Compass, The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Narnia Chronicles and, of course, all the volumes of Harry Potter. We will soon own The Waterhouse by Dick King-Smith. Popular authors include Avi, Sharon Creech, Gary Paulsen, Ann Rinaldi and Lemony Snicket, to name a few. Our series include Dear America, Phantom Stallion, Hank the Cowdog, Magic Treehouse, The Land Of Elyon, The Little House Books, Edge Chronicles and Jenny Nimmo's Magician Trilogy.Do not be shy about browsing this section, and, once you've found your treasure, recline on the floor in a beanbag chair and enjoy it!

None of this would be possible without the help of our wonderful-Mrs. Cathy
